In May/June 2024, the Revista Electrónica de Ciencia Penal y Criminología changed its editorial management and URL (www.revistacriminologia.com).
The protocols and guidelines of good practices adopted by the Revista Electrónica de Ciencia Penal y Criminología are based on the code of conduct that, for editors of scientific journals, has established the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Obligations of the Journal
The Revista Electrónica de Ciencia Penal y Criminología is committed to:
- Guarantee the quality of the published scientific material.
- Protect ideological freedom and freedom of expression.
- Protect the identity of the evaluators.
- Protect the submitted originals.
- Carry out the appropriate checks to ensure that the works respect the guidelines of good practices described here.
- Reject and / or remove texts that cast doubts about bad behavior.
- Publish corrections, clarifications, retractions and apologies in cases where it is necessary.
- Keep a digital copy of all articles and published materials to ensure their future maintenance.
Obligations of the Editors
The editors are committed to:
- Adopt the decision on publication based exclusively on compliance with the formal requirements set out in “Cómo publicar” (how to publish) and on the result of the evaluation process. In no case shall the publication depend on the race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, age, ethnic origin, nationality or ideology of the authors.
- Do not disclose the authorship of the manuscripts to the reviewers and guarantee their anonymity (even after publication).
- Do not oblige authors to cite the journal as a condition for publication.
- Initiate all necessary measures in the event of ethical misconduct.
Obligations of the Authors
The authors must:
- Guarantee the authorship of the texts. If there were several significant contributions from several subjects, they should appear as co-authors.
- Guarantee the originality of the work, being in possession of the rights they present in their work and having properly cited the work of other authors. Contributions that are not original or in which plagiarism is detected will be rejected and / or withdrawn.
- Make all the corrections indicated in the evaluation process.
- Comply with all the indications contained in the “Cómo publicar” (how to publish) section.
- Identify the sources used (citation of works and final list of references).
- Provide contact information. These will appear in the published work, to enable communication and scientific debate with other researchers.
- Commit to participate at least once in the peer review process, if requested. The publication in the magazine is, otherwise, free of any charge.
- Undertake not to publish the article in any traditional medium (on paper) for one year from the moment the article appears in RECPC, and thereafter, the publication must be previously notified to RECPC in order to prevent a possible collision of interests.
Integrity and Academic Rigour
Whenever it may be known that a work contains relevant inaccuracies, misleading or distorted statements, the author will be asked to correct them immediately. If he did not, the work would be rejected or withdrawn from the magazine.
If any work whose content is fraudulent is detected, it will be rejected or withdrawn at the time that is known. In the latter case, readers and indexing systems will immediately be informed.
Peer Review
The evaluation process of the articles received for publication is as follows:
- Preliminary evaluation by the Editorial Committee that verifies if the work coincides with the topics covered by the journal and whether it complies with all formal regulations.
- Peer evaluation (double blind DBPR).
- The evaluators receive the anonymized text and the article evaluation model. They should assess the methodology, the contribution to the area and originality, the results and conclusions, the clarity of the expression and the relevance of the study in relation to the editorial line.
- The result of the evaluation can be "rejected", "accepted with modifications", "accepted". In the event that a work is rejected and accepted (even if it is conditional), the article will be presented to a third evaluator.
- The acceptance of the publication will depend on the result of the evaluation, which will be respected by the Editorial Committee.
Obligations of the Evaluators
Confidentiality.
The original submitted will be treated as confidential matter. It cannot be shared or commented on with third parties, except for the exceptions that have been indicated by the editor. The reviewers may not use the content or ideas of the text, especially when it is not accepted, without the express written consent of the author.
Timing
The evaluators are given a period of two months to submit their report. If for any reason the evaluator could not meet the deadline, she or he will communicate this circumstance as soon as possible.
Objectivity
The evaluation must be based on objective criteria, supported by clear and well-founded arguments. It should not include personal criticism of the author of the text.
Identification of sources
Reviewers should point out possible publications that the author does not cite. They must also inform the Editorial Committee about the possible similarity with
other published text. Conflict of interests. Evaluators should not evaluate a work when they detect a conflict of interest due to the subject matter or for any other reason.
Open Access Policy
The assignment of an article to RECPC for online publication implies the past, present and future exclusivity of its edition on the Internet,
as well as the express permission to RECPC for a possible rebroadcasting of the work in another electronic format or in possible special editions
of this magazine made on paper.
The journal provides open and immediate access to its contents.
Articles can be shared in any medium or format.
The content of the articles can be used for any purpose as long as it is properly cited.
Data Protection
The Revista Electrónica de Ciencia Penal y Criminología guarantees the confidentiality of individual information.
The authors are responsible for having the relevant authorizations for the use of all the data that appear in their texts.
The integrity and future availability of all articles and published materials in the internet servers of the Universidad de Granada is guaranteed by this university, a solid academic institution five centuries old with more than 55,000 students and more than 5,500 people in its staff.
